Fraser McConnell began his career in motocross, karting and rallying, with his early success twice earning him the ‘Jamaican Driver of the Year’ accolade before he discovered the discipline of rallycross on YouTube.
Electing to test his mettle in North America’s ARX2 series, the rallycross rookie was fastest out-of-the-box first time out and went on to reach the final an impressive four times out of five, highlighted by a podium finish in the last round of the campaign en route to fourth spot in the overall standings.
Stepping up to international competition in 2019, McConnell joined RX2 with defending champions Olsbergs MSE and – despite it being only his second year in rallycross and first racing in Europe – he immediately made his mark.
A spectacular, crowd-pleasing round-the-outside pass on team-mate Jesse Kallio in the Barcelona curtain-raiser resulted in a podium finish on his debut in the official FIA World Rallycross Championship feeder series, while a battling run to second position in the Cape Town season finale secured him fourth place in the championship chase, just seven points shy of the runner-up spoils.
McConnell simultaneously lifted the ARX2 laurels in 2019, and he is hoping that his trademark swashbuckling style will similarly carry him to the 2020 RX2 crown with OMSE.
