After cutting his teeth on the domestic rallycross scene, Jesse Kallio stepped up to the RX Academy, clinching the 2017 crown with SET Promotion before adding the RX Academy on Ice trophy to his burgeoning career CV.
As a prize for his RX Academy success, the Finn was awarded a drive in the Super1600 class of the 2018 FIA European Rallycross Championship, where victory in Norway and a further podium finish in Germany secured him sixth place in the standings.
Progressing again in 2019, Kallio joined the RX2 grid with Olsbergs MSE and was one of the undisputed revelations of the season in the official FIA World Rallycross Championship feeder series. Flying out-of-the-blocks, he raced to five consecutive podium finishes and – but for a slightly hesitant start in the final – he would very likely have won round three at Spa-Francorchamps.
He looked set to finish second in the title table behind OMSE team-mate Oliver Eriksson, until cruel misfortune in the South African season finale – in the shape of electrical issues that ruled him out of two of the four qualifying races – dropped him to third. Jesse returns in 2020 fully focussed on redressing the balance.
